Gabberts To Close Texas Furniture Outlet
MINNEAPOLIS (March 23, 2005) –– Minneapolis-based Gabberts Furniture and Design Studio today announced it will close its Furniture Outlet located at 4207 Simonton Road, Dallas. The company plans to begin liquidating merchandise in mid April and expects to permanently close the store by early July. This move will not affect operations at any of Gabberts’ three retail showrooms and design studios, which are located in Dallas, Fort Worth and Edina, Minn.
The Gabberts Furniture Outlet employs 24 people, or about 5 percent of the company’s total workforce. Gabberts is currently working on plans to re-assign these employees to its other operations.
“We made the decision to close our Furniture Outlet based on customer trends,” said Jim Gabbert, chief executive officer, Gabberts Furniture and Design Studio. “Research is telling us that many of our current Outlet customers are also customers of our retail showrooms. That means we’re actually transferring merchandise from our showrooms to a second location only to have it bought by essentially the same customer. That doesn’t make sense from a business or customer service standpoint.”
An outlet-like area, called Gabberts Odds & Ends, will be incorporated into the Dallas retail showroom, located at 13342 Midway Road, just two blocks south of the Outlet store. “We’ve had very strong customer response to this concept in Minnesota, and we expect it to be well received in the Metroplex,” Gabbert said.
The Odds & Ends area in the Minnesota store is approximately 2,500 square feet or about 1.5 percent of the total retail floor space. Floor plans are still in development for the Dallas showroom and the company has not yet determined if it will add an Odds & Ends area to its Fort Worth showroom, located at 6301 Oakmont Boulevard.
Gabberts has operated a Furniture Outlet in Dallas since 1994. It moved to its current 52,000 square foot location in March 2003. The Outlet store will be open seven days a week through the liquidation period. Hours are Monday through Friday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
